requirements
To get proper results you will need the development version of FVWM. It will not work with the 2.4.x versions of FVWM. Everything has been tested with FVWM 2.5.25, 2.5.23, 2.5.21, 2.5.18, 2.5.16, and 2.5.12. But it should also work with any newer version.
Xterm is used as terminal emulator. The shell scripts are written with Bash in mind. The Bitstream Vera font family is used as the default font. This font is now part of most GNU/Linux distributions and other UNIX-oid systems. The corresponding package under Debian is called ttf-bitstream-vera. ImageMagick is used for thumbnailing iconified windows and for converting the wallpapers to PNG. You will also need the XSwitchRes utility if you want to change the screen resolution through the resolution sub menu. If you want drop shadows then you have to setup the composite manager xcompmgr [1], [2] first. The Gentoo Linux Wiki gives some good advices for setting up xcompmgr. The xcompmgr support can then be enabled via the xcompmgr sub menu. And finally, a nice looking cursor theme for X is the industrial-cursor-theme. Another required utility is RootTiler for X, which is used for drawing the icon box on to the root window.

configuration
The installation process is described in the INSTALL file. And information about how to configure and customize the package to your own needs can be found in the file CUSTOMIZE.
There is also a patch which reduces the height of all menu separator lines to one pixel. The BUILD file describes how to apply this patch to the source code of FVWM and how to compile the result.
license
The whole package can't be released under a single license. The problem here is that each wallpaper was released under different terms. And some of them aren't compatible with each other, so a single license can't fit them all. To fix this issue, each theme is now released under the license of the used wallpaper. Please see the credits section for full details. It should be OK to bundle and distribute everything together in a single tarball. But don't forget: IANAL.
The wallpapers of the green stripes and the grey stripes theme are not included into the package. They must be downloaded separately from the desktop section of Louie Mantia's website. See the INSTALL file for instructions.
